NEXT MEETING

Tuesday the 4th July 2000 at 7.30PM

KOONDOOLA COMMUNITY HALL - BURBRIDGE AVENUE

REPORT FROM THE CHAIR

 Sorry ! There I've said it!

In relation to the reference last month about rubbish bins left on the street.  What we were on about was only two bins which are in breach of the Local Government Local Health Law which says the bins must be kept behind the building line [and not on the kerb seven days a week].

Street Refurbishment

If you use the local bus you will notice the new bus stops in front of the shops.  These will be moved when the bus bays are built during refurbishment.  If they are moved by anyone else as happened on the first weekend, please call Path Transit, Joondalup, and they will deal with the culprits accordingly.

Koondoola & Burbridge Avenue Refurbishment

Will begin as soon as the council finish Civic Drive, Wanneroo.  They have one more roundabout to go.  At this stage it looks like the end of July.  I'm told the plans are still being altered.

Closure of Access way

Denston Way, Girrawheen has just been passed at a meeting of Council for closure.  The next step is to go to the State Planning Commission for approval.  This is sometimes a stumbling block.  Watch this space.  Letters have been sent to Neighbours in Whitehouse drive about closing the undeveloped PAW [public access way] on the North boundary of Mercy College.  Council is negotiating division of the land which will require a sewerage easement.

Koondoola Drug Dealing

I cannot release much information except to tell you the Police have been getting good results in Koondoola lately.  They have asked us not to get complacent because crime is down.  Report any incidents of drug exchanges, especially car numbers and associated houses.  Drug dealers are active around school closing time.  Ring Warwick on 92468333 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.  If we all chip in the dealers will go elsewhere.  Particularly watch for all our Park areas for activity.  Alan Blencowe ph/fax 92474539 mob 04 02 08 01 66

There will be a NEIGHBOURHOOD Watch Meeting after this one, of course as always.

~~~~~~~~Residents of Koondoola Working for Koondoola ~~~~~~~~~
WE THANK SENATOR GRAHAM EDWARDS MP Member for Cowan FOR MAKING IT POSSIBLE TO GET OUR LETTER OUT, WHICH INCIDENTALLY IS GOING INTO THE ARCHIVES AT CITY OF WANNEROO | JOONDALUP LIBRARY FROM NOW ON.
Olympic Runner
  Are we as the Community Group  going to get into the Olympic Fever and do the right thing by our favourite Son, who else but our Treasurer, Joe Potter  and go and cheer him along on Friday 7th July [day 30], Segment 134 of Torch Relay.  Starting in Balcatta and going along Wanneroo Rd from Telephone box adjacent to mail box and finish at House No 317., this segment will commence at approximately 4:18pm being the leg between Balcatta and Woodvale.  We shall discuss it in full at our next meeting and see if some of us would to go and cheer 'The Veteran' on!
The next issue is in relation to DRUGS in Koondoola, which are very rife and from the number of calls that we [several committee members] are getting, it is obvious that a lot of you don't want to tolerate the DRUG|DEALERS in our community, or put up with the suffering and increase in crime rate associated with drug use|abuse.  Yes it's about time that we realize that this is OUR Community and that we don't have to have them around if we all create more ACTION.  We already know who most of them are and if we target to supply even their "customer" registration numbers, location of incidents and descriptions of persons involved and forward them together to Police by ringing Warwick Police on 9246 8333 [sometimes you will have to be patient, as their dilapidated telephone system is a problem] or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
At our Next Meeting we shall have some visitors who expressed interest in starting similar Community Groups and asked to come and sit in at our Meeting.  I hope this will lead to benefit all Community Groups in future.
Also, Margaret Quirk, [who is taking over from Ted Cunningham as our Local Member] would like to introduce herself to our community and tell us a bit about herself.  This should be very interesting, and you will be able to ask her first hand as to what's on the horizon?
Margaret is certainly the person to talk to in relation to things like [shortage of Police, Drug Problems, dissatisfaction with sentencing for to-day's crimes and or any downs falls in Local Government] because she will be the person to represent you or us with the power of necessary changes in Legislation.
