Safer
Citizens
At
our last meeting, we had Mr Tony Giggs from the City of Wanneroo
give a presentation of the Safer Citizens programme and how we need
to be a part of it if we wish it to be a success.
He had to field several hard questions on the operation of
the programme. One of
the areas he covered was getting the public to get out and use
(RECLAIM) our public open spaces.
They can also come and advise you on matters of security.
I have fridge magnets with the Council after hours and Police
Communications numbers. They
were delivered in the post but if you missed yours leave your
address on my answering machine and I’ll drop one around. Councillor
Hughes and I have put our heads together with our budget requests
for the coming Council budget round and this is what we have asked
to have considered: 1)
Upgrade Hudson Park clubrooms –
severe structural faults. 2)
Purchase of tractor & slasher for residential verge
maintenance. 3)
Employ operator for above equipment. 4)
Install
previously planned skateboard park in Hainsworth Park. 5)
Mow verges around bushland areas. 6)
Complete upgrade of Denston Way accessway.
(not approved for closure.) 7)
Additional staff for enforcement of C.O.W. Local Laws. 8)
Expedite the development of Hainsworth Youth Centre. 9)
Match all Homeswest funding for New North upgrading programme. 10)
Expedite
the slab replacement programme City wide. 11)
New
footpath in Wanneroo Rd.
(Templeton – Shortland). 12)
Upgrade
of Girrawheen Senior Citizen’s Centre. 13)
Upgrade
Koondoola Hall.40)
Road resurfacing – completion of works deferred from this
years budget. 15)
Upgrade
street lights to Australian Standards (starting with oldest
suburbs). Lets
hope we can convince the other Councillors to support us! THE
ABORIGINAL TIMES We
welcome the editorial team of the Times who have set up their office
in the Koondoola Plaza. We
wish you all success and thank you for choosing to be a part of our
community. MINISTRY
OF TRANSPORT FUNDING The
following funds were made available to the City of Wanneroo for
refurbishment projects. Hudson
Ave, $59,976, Amberton Ave, $77,623 and Butterworth Ave, $59,589
which will represent about 10% of the cost of the work. NANKIVELL WAY PUBLIC ACCESSWAY (P.A.W.) VIRTUAL CLOSURE Those
of you who live in the street will notice the 6 fences going up in
the accessway. The
Telstra cable makes it impossible to close so the Council has
decided to reticulate and landscape the lane between the fences.
We hope the extra traffic in the south P.A.W. will make it
safer as well. If this trial is successful, other accessways may be closed
too. A great idea as it
can easily be put back if required. |

FROM THE EDITOR - Police Vehicle Investigation Unit ! |
|
We have had an email from the Sergeant in Charge of the Police
Vehicle Investigation Unit.
He lives here in Koondoola and has an interest in our collective
welfare. He is offering
to assist you with traffic related matters if you require advice.
His email address is:
brian.eddy@police.gov.wa.au
Brian says: “One of my
concerns within Koondoola is the amount of black marks being left on
the road by senseless drivers who in most cases do not live outside
the house where the marks are left.
If a person sees these offences and are prepared to go to
court, advise me (email) or Warwick Police 9246 8333 with the time,
date, registration number, make of vehicle and description of driver
then action can be taken against the owner/driver.”
(Lets hope the driver reads this and mends his/her ways – ed.)
