Action Group [Inc]

NEXT MEETING

Tuesday the 2nd November 1999 at 7.30PM

KOONDOOLA COMMUNITY HALL - BURBRIDGE AVENUE
REPORT FROM THE CHAIR

 Hands Up if you think Koondoola has had a bad deal from the council over the last few years.  Hands Ups if you think Koondoola has room for improvement.  Hands Up if you think you want to give Koondoola a helping hand to get moving.  Then it's time to Stand Up and Be Counted.

This is a new and exciting group of members of Koondoola including ratepayers and business people and we hope tenants will also join in, who are not hapy to sit on their hands and watch other suburbs grow while we stand still.  In the last few weeks, a steering committee has been formed, established a set of rules and commenced to open a bank account.  We are opening a bank account now.  In short we are not intending to stand still.

Our first submission to Wanneroo City Council is already on it's way to hve the Burbridge Avenue refurbishment modified.  The steering commitee beieve the roundabout planned for the corner of Burbridge and Shelvock should be moved 50 metres to Varcoe road.  We are also drafting a submission to Transperth to move the bus route to a more central location brining it close to the shops and five sets of pensioner accommodation.  To find out why, come to our first meeting and have a say

Alan Blencowe.

~~~~~Residents Working Together For Koondoola~~~~~
WE THANK SENATOR GRAHAM EDWARDS MP Member for Cowan FOR MAKING IT POSSIBLE TO GET OUR LETTER OUT, WHICH INCIDENTALLY IS GOING INTO THE ARCHIVES AT CITY OF WANNEROO | JOONDALUP LIBRARY FROM NOW ON.
Well here we are, some what under a new banner, but I assure you, with a lot more purpose and deliberation, first thing first.
Why the EMU on our letter, you may ask. well how many of you are really aware that in fact Koondoola is an Aborigine word for EMU, so that is exactly what it is doing on our News Letters from now on.
Then why a New community group, well that wasn't an easy easy decision, and for those who don't know all the trauma, and who were not privileged enough to get a "tatty" letter [members only], there were a few of us who have made the decision that Koondoola deserved something more reliable as a community group, with a more purpose then just scoring a few "Brownie Points" for the whims of individuals.
Finally the deciding factor was that after trying to get a Committee meeting for eleven month, enough was enoughm and even after the meeting was called for 18/10/99 for which some of us duly turned up, only to stand around for half an hour with no one turning up to conduct the same, being the final point.
So now we have:- Koondoola Ratepayers and Tennants Action Group
The next meeting should be quite interesting and I urge for everyone to come along and meet the Committee, have our Constitution explained to you, and most of all, tell us how you would like to see Koondoola improved and what sort of input you would like to put in.  There will be a Treasures Report, yes already. you will not have to wait for 3 years this time, the account is open and functional!!!
The Neighbourhood Watch will be held jointly and please notice the time is 7.30pm so please come along.
We have also several letters out and a couple of replies back, they will be tabled of course.  We have notified most bodies of the formation of our group, and have been met with quite and enthusiasm and assurance that they will work with us.
We have quite a few directions in mind for the future, come and formulate them with us.  At this point of time we intend to have the Meetings set on the monthly basis, together with Neighbourhood Watch, of course, and yes, with a " Cuppa and a Biscuit".  Yes, the Commercial rate payers will be an important part of our community and will have one of their members on the Committee!
For us to operate in a proper and respectable manner and to even achieve more for Koondoola we need some funds, so we ask you for your help by taking out a $5.00 membership.  Membership forms will be available at the door of each meeting, with receipts.  We have a few ideas for raising funds for the future, which will be discussed at our next meeting and for your approval.
By the time we have our next meeting, the nominations for the new Councillors and Mayor will be in, so lets wish both Alan and Joe good luck, and I am sure many of you will agree that they have plenty to offer to our Community.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Here is hoping that your all read your Shire notices, especially those who obliterate the verges with wrecked vehicles, because there will be a $100.00 fine on the spot with two weeks to pay and not only that, there will be a 3 points loss on your license.

With the spring in the air, it is nice to see that a lot of residents are up and cleaning up their gardens.  It certainly makes a difference to our suburb, and with the help of "New North" project we are going ahead in leaps and bounds.  Just looking at how quickly the newly refurbished places are selling, we are certainly turning the corner.
