NEXT MEETING

Tuesday the 5th of September at 7.30PM

KOONDOOLA COMMUNITY HALL - BURBRIDGE AVENUE

FROM THE HOT SEAT

FROM WHERE I SIT

I have the sad duty to inform you that our intrepid Editor and Secretary, Vern Parker has resigned.  It certainly came as a surprise to all of us just before the last meeting and we had to put our heads together in a hurry to share out all the work he’s been doing.  For those of you who are new to the suburb, I guess you need to know that Vern is the character behind the scene who got the group up and running.  It was Vern who twisted my arm and convinced me to run for Council to represent the South Ward.  Thanks a lot mate!  It was probably Vern who put a flea in your ear at some time and made you pay attention.

How can I help?

Now for all the people who offered to help with something or other and Vern was doing it all allready, now is your chance.  We have to thank Neil for taking on the distribution of the newsletter, Joe for offering to help me count it and sort out the streets, Richard for taking on the editing and Tess for organising the urn and the suppers.  Thanks Supa Valu for all the makings.

Position Vacant

Having shared out nearly all the jobs, we still need a secretary.  There is not much work left to do (not even the minutes) and so this is where you can make a difference with Koondoola.  If you have a  computer that would be a good start.

Koondoola Avenue

I was told the roadworks is about to start.  Not bad!  They are only 4 months late.  It may be started before this goes to press.  There is a small hitch.  The job is estimated to be about $618,000 which is $18,000 over budget and Homeswest is hedging about paying $9,000 extra.

Council budget is this month so start looking in your letter box for that exciting little letter.         Alan

THE LAST WORD

I am very pleased to see that Koondoola is tidy for the first time in many months. We must now all work to see that it stays that way. The only way that this can be achieved is for us all to decide that we are no longer going to allow a few people with a bad attitude towards such things to bring us down again. Koondoola may well be a lower class suburb but that does not mean that we should be a no class suburb. One of the reasons why Koondoola is considered to be one of the best suburbs to invest in is that real estate values have been depressed by the actions of a few people. Since the clean up our values have shown a steady increase, and will continue to do so if we keep Koondoola tidy and care about the condition of our properties. It is estimated by some real estate agents that within 5 years land values in Koondoola will double, which makes it the best investment available. We all know that you don’t need to travel very far from here to find houses that are just the same as ours that are worth at least twice as much as ours. That is because the owners care about their properties and will not tolerate anyone in the neighbourhood doing anything to reduce their resale values. The laws and council regulations that apply to us are the same as the laws and regulations that apply to every other suburb in Perth. All we need to do is to see that they are enforced and that no exceptions are made for any reason. Richard.

FROM THE EDITOR -
FAMOUS LAST WORDS!
This space is available to any ratepayer or tenant of Koondoola to allow you to have your say on any matter that concerns you and us. Please limit your letters to about 100 words. We will not publish your name if you wish, but you must  identify yourself to us. We will keep your identity confidential. We will not publish anything that is in anyway libelous or defamatory, nor will we pursue matters that are obviously a vendetta between neighbours. It can be on any subject, even a little of our local history or to tell us about an interesting incident will do. Please contact me on 9342 8703.
