Raging Shadows
The fires are burning and raging about Be careful stand back lookout they shout
Have fear and respect for this mighty foe More harm it will do than just a stubbed toe
Horror and rampage the lashing flames cast Disaster and tears the devastation comes last
Wreckage and rubble will lay scattered around Littering and shadowing the blackened ground
Despair and tears will come to the fore Every rule is broken for fire has no law
The hunger is savage and lasting for hours The fighter’s courage drained but never sours
From dawn till dusk the battles rage onward No one turns to leave or even head homeward
One must remain to the very last breath Even with comrades one fights to the death
So suddenly it comes the overwhelming flames Never has it put a fire fighter to shame
Many have lost their lives for the cause But many also have been saved from its jaws
Years of try tundra sit silently wait Just for someone to open the gate
Carelessly strike of the match is enough Makes things all around so terribly tough
A flick of a cigarette but out window of shame What will they do who will they blame
Speed is the enemy of everyman and home Fuelled constantly by winds and heat souring like a dome
Animals of the bush charge frantic and rush Pelting madly through the rough brush
Heading in frenzy along ancient worn path Hoping in vain to avoid the fire’s wrath
End of the days of exhaustion is near Stand by the pumps lads have no fear
We shall triumph yet over madness of heat Firm to lines now we shall not be beat
Dying the embers of evil shall glow Make sure now fellows it could still well go
Caste a sharp eye for the hidden revenge Lest it strike back and spread on another binge
Control we now have of the bushland our heritage Nature in time will re grow to a great advantage
Healing the wounds that so badly have bled No more the waters shall we have to shed?
A new birth is coming after cleansing has been Fresh crisp new lands wonderfully clean
Heed the warning of dry untouched soils Lest we again have to defend the spoils
